Nitinol Stent Cutting System RFQ: Motion, Fixturing and Inspection Evidence

Define the complete Nitinol cutting station, its interfaces and delivery evidence before comparing supplier quotations.

Read the guide

A Nitinol stent cutting-system quotation should describe a complete manufacturing station, not just a laser source and a list of axis resolutions. Give suppliers the same part family, material conditions, handling constraints and acceptance questions. Require a response that separates included functions, options, assumptions and evidence still to be demonstrated.

Review equipment configuration and project enquiries ↗

Use the Nitinol stent cutting process guide to establish the application. This RFQ framework turns that route into a machine scope and a supplier-comparison record.

1. Define the production family and its boundaries

Identify the authoritative drawing set and distinguish representative parts from future concepts. Specify tube material and delivered condition, geometry range, usable stock length, protected surfaces and downstream stages. Name the worst-case features that must be included in the equipment demonstration, not only the easiest demonstration pattern.

State the expected product mix, batch arrangement and changeover concept. If production volume is provisional, ask for scenarios with explicit assumptions rather than a single impressive throughput number. Mark which parts are confirmed requirements and which would need another configuration or development project.

The sample-intake checklist can supply the drawing and tube register. Reference that packet in the RFQ instead of duplicating it in uncontrolled attachments.

2. Specify coordinated motion through the part

Describe the contour, datum system, rotary relationship and locations whose accuracy matters. Ask how axial and rotary motion are coordinated, calibrated and checked on a representative cut component. Encoder resolution, commanded increment and demonstrated feature accuracy are different statements; require each quoted figure to identify what it describes.

Discuss tube straightness, runout, unsupported length and the relationship between the grip and cut zone. Ask how the proposed setup handles the actual stock condition. Where vision or focus adjustment is included, define its role, trigger, limits and the evidence returned to the operator.

Coherent's StarCut Tube overview illustrates the integration of laser, multi-axis motion and optional tube feeding. It supports considering these as separate RFQ items; that product's quoted capacities are not AOGEO machine guarantees.

3. Make fixturing and handling a quoted scope

Define permitted grip zones, surface-contact limits, locating references and orientation. Include how thin or partially cut structures are supported and how finished pieces are released and collected. Ask the supplier to identify customer-supplied tooling and the number of product variants covered by the price.

List loading, stock advance, part separation, unloading and scrap handling individually. Confirm how an interrupted run is recovered and how the system prevents an unidentified piece from entering the accepted output stream. Any automation demonstration should use the agreed part and stock scenario, not only empty machine motions.

4. Request a line-by-line response matrix

Scope itemBuyer suppliesSupplier must identify

Data and operationIdentity, recipe-control and interface requirements.Record fields, exports, permissions, backups and exclusions.

Use the same response categories for every supplier: included, optional, buyer-supplied, excluded or unresolved. Attach a document reference to any claimed demonstration. An unanswered cell should remain visible rather than being interpreted as included.

5. Define inspection and acceptance deliverables

Separate machine-function checks from component-process evidence. A motion calibration does not replace a cut-feature report, and a dimension report does not establish every surface requirement. Identify the as-cut and finished-stage results required and who performs each downstream operation.

Agree the demonstration sample list, permitted destructive checks, result format and treatment of exceptions. Include run order, configuration, program revision and traceable sample identities. Ask for both acceptable and rejected results where the agreed evaluation requires them, together with remaining development actions.

Define the measured time boundary and required operator actions. Factory and site acceptance should have explicit protocols, owners and document references. Equipment handover evidence does not automatically approve the finished medical device.

6. Close the handover and lifecycle gaps

List operator training, maintenance access, routine checks, consumable replacement and program backup responsibilities. Identify the records needed to reproduce a setup after a changeover or service intervention. Include a site-specific laser-safety assessment and applicable installation requirements in the project responsibilities.

  • All suppliers quote against the same controlled input packet.
  • Fixture variants and automated handling boundaries are priced explicitly.
  • Motion claims are tied to their measurement definition and part evidence.
  • Inspection equipment and external laboratory work have clear owners.
  • Data, training, service and unresolved development are listed.

Review the AOGEO Nitinol tube and stent cutting system against this matrix, then send the RFQ and required evidence. Return to the medical manufacturing hub to coordinate cutting with joining, marking and surface-preparation tasks.
