Cold Plate Laser Welding: From Joint Design to Qualified Production
Start with the fluid boundary, not the laser power. A qualified cold plate welding route connects material, cover geometry, seal paths, accessible interfaces, fixturing and verification. This guide brings those decisions together, then directs engineers to detailed material, light-source and acceptance guides.
Read the complete guide ↗Laser Welding for Liquid Cooling Manifolds and Tube Joints
A manifold is a network of sealing interfaces, not simply a straight tube weld. Plan the joining route around branch geometry, port orientation, accessible seam paths and test connections. This guide connects part design, cell configuration and inspection for liquid cooling manifolds and tube joints.

A useful leak-test specification describes the complete measurement task, not just the detector sensitivity. Define the inspected boundary, method, gas conditions, fixtures and decision rule together. Helium verification connects welding quality to production release without replacing the part's other qualification tests.

An automated line is a coordinated manufacturing and decision system. Define the product family, station responsibilities, test routes and data flow before combining machines. This guide connects laser processing, helium testing and traceable release from trials to an acceptance-ready line specification.

Ultrafast Laser Micromachining for Cold Plate Development ↗Start with the component you manufacture
Cold plates, manifolds, tube joints and CDU-related metal assemblies have different joining and inspection tasks. Copper and aluminum cold plates need material-specific decisions; manifold branches add three-dimensional access and fixture challenges. Use the application guides to follow a complete route, then open a technical guide for detailed decisions.
AI server and data-center components are the main application route here. Battery, energy-storage and power-electronics cooling components can share selected process principles, while their geometry, materials and qualification requirements remain separately defined.
Follow the manufacturing route
Begin with controlled drawings, materials and surface condition. Prepare the body, channels, cover and interfaces using the selected manufacturing route; evaluate laser cutting or local micromachining where it fits the part. Plan surface preparation, locating and clamping before sealing or interface welding.
After joining, connect the applicable cleaning, weld inspection, helium testing and functional qualification. Marking and identity capture can be placed where the traceability plan requires them. The sequence is tailored to the part: welding a cover does not mean that every underlying channel is laser-made, and local weld preparation does not replace final internal cleanliness verification.

Choose the light source and beam as separate decisions
IR–IR, IR–Blue and IR–Green are source-combination choices; annular and core-ring are spatial beam-distribution choices. Compare them with the actual material, surface, joint, optics and fixture. The technical library separates these dimensions so a procurement team can evaluate what a configuration really contains.
Start with the source-selection guide for a comparison framework, then use each hybrid guide to build a focused trial. Retain beam-profile evidence, recipe identity and the conditions under which weld and leak-test results were produced.
Connect the process to equipment and acceptance
Choose a single machine, an application workstation or an integrated line according to the manufacturing task. The equipment routes below cover copper cold plate welding, manifold and tube-joint welding, integrated welding and helium testing, whole-part vacuum testing and local sniffer inspection.
For an enquiry, provide the controlled drawing, representative parts, material and coating information, required inspection and production sequence. Use the qualification guide to distinguish weld quality, leakage, strength, flow, thermal performance and line acceptance. Each decision should lead to a verifiable requirement rather than a machine-power comparison alone.

Frequently asked questions
Where should I begin if I already know the component?
Open the cold plate or manifold application guide, then follow its material, source, fixture and verification links. Equipment pages provide the configuration and enquiry route.
Are helium testing and laser processing the same process?
No. They are connected manufacturing tasks. Laser processes prepare, join or identify the component; helium testing verifies an agreed leakage task.
Do the guides replace a project trial?
They organize the decisions and evidence required for a trial. The selected configuration and acceptance conditions are established using the actual part and agreed technical documents.
